Primary and noncontributory is wording, not a checkbox
Someone checked PNC on the ACORD. The plumber is already in the building. The endorsement is not attached. That is the Friday job — not a portal, not a suite.
This is not legal advice. For coverage questions, talk to your counsel or insurer.
What the line is asking for
Primary and noncontributory means the vendor’s policy should respond first, and not wait for yours to share the loss, if the endorsement says so. A checkbox on the certificate face does not write that into the policy.
Certificate holder is not Additional Insured. Additional Insured is not PNC. If all three are on your requirements, you need each one on the right form — not one yellow cell that says “done.”
You confirm the endorsement
Limits and dates can be extracted. PNC should never auto-pass from the face. Same rule as Additional Insured and waiver. COI Tracker extracts. You confirm. Face checkboxes never auto-pass Additional Insured, waiver, or primary and noncontributory.
If the wording is missing, the vendor does not meet requirements for that property. Needs review is a status, not coverage.
One property can be stricter
Org defaults cover most sites. A lender can make one building require PNC. Override it there. Help you chase the vendors on that site who are missing the form — not a blast to the whole roster.
Questions
- Is primary and noncontributory the same as Additional Insured?
- No. Additional Insured names a party. Primary and noncontributory is how the policies are supposed to respond. Both live on endorsements, not on a face checkbox.
- Will the product mark PNC as passed from the ACORD box?
- No. You confirm endorsement lines. Face checkboxes never auto-pass Additional Insured, waiver, or primary and noncontributory.
