Additional Insured is on the endorsement, not the checkbox

The ACORD 25 will happily let someone check Additional Insured. That box is not the coverage. If waiver, primary and noncontributory, or completed operations are on your requirements, they live on the endorsement.

Certificate holder is not Additional Insured

Putting your entity in the certificate holder field does not make you Additional Insured. Neither does a checked box on the face of the form. You need the endorsement that names the party and the coverage you required.

Office managers already know this. The cert looks official. The plumber is in the building. The endorsement was never attached.

Do not let software auto-pass it

Extraction can pull the checkbox and a blob of wording. That is useful. Turning it green without a person is how you get a false sense of compliance. COI Tracker will not auto-green Additional Insured, waiver, or primary and noncontributory from the face of the ACORD.

You confirm the line. Status stays honest.

Write the wording you actually need

If a property needs specific Additional Insured language, store it on that property. Vendors get the request with the requirement attached. You are not hunting through a shared inbox for the last version of the sentence.

Questions

Does a checked Additional Insured box on the ACORD 25 mean I am covered?
No. Additional Insured is granted by endorsement. The face of the certificate is a snapshot and a request, not the policy change.
Does COI Tracker mark Additional Insured as passed automatically?
No. You confirm endorsement lines. Face checkboxes never auto-pass Additional Insured, waiver, or primary and noncontributory.

Require the endorsement. Confirm it. Do not trust the checkbox.
